What makes a gift box feel luxurious
A luxury gift box is mostly about weight and pace. Rigid board feels solid in the hand, and the opening takes a moment longer than tearing into a carton.
The details carry the rest: a wrap with some texture, a foil mark that catches the light, an insert that holds each piece where you placed it. None of that needs to be loud.
The person opening a gift did not choose the box, so it has to explain itself. A clear logo, a tidy layout and a lid that opens without a fight do more than any amount of decoration.
Luxury also means restraint with space. A gift that fills its box with a neat margin looks generous. The same gift rattling in a box twice its size looks like an afterthought.
For brands that sell boxed gift sets all year, our rigid gift boxes with a magnetic flap are the natural starting point.
Which gift box suits which occasion?
This table covers all six boxes in the range, how each is built and where it does its best work.
| Box | Construction | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Rigid Gift Boxes | Magnetic closure | Boxed gift sets sold all year round |
| Luxury Boxes | Magnetic closure | High-value gifts with a fitted insert |
| Round Gift Boxes | Round tube with a lid | Candles, tins and round gifts |
| Flower Boxes | Round tube with a lid | Arranged bouquets and preserved stems |
| Wedding and Invitation Boxes | Lift-off lid | Invitations, favours and bridal party gifts |
| Presentation Boxes | Lift-off lid | Awards, certificates and formal handovers |
Magnetic, round or lift-off: choosing the opening
Magnetic boxes keep the lid attached. The flap closes with a soft click, so the box can be opened, shown and closed again many times. That suits shops, where gifts are often opened at the till before they are wrapped.
Round boxes have a lid that slides off a tube. They feel different from a square box straight away and suit gifts with a round shape.
A round lid also hides the moment slightly longer. The lid has to be eased up the tube, which builds a little suspense that suits a present.
Lift-off lids are the most formal. The lid comes away whole, the gift sits beneath it, and the moment feels like an occasion. Our presentation boxes with lift-off lids use that for awards and handovers.
Sizing a gift box around the gift
Gifts are often several items, not one. Lay them out as you want them seen, leaving 10 to 15 mm between pieces.
Then measure the outer edges of the group and the height of the tallest item. These inside sizes come up often, and are offered as a guide.
If the set changes through the year, size the box to the largest version. A card spacer can fill the gap when a smaller item goes in.
Round sizes are given as diameter and height. Our round gift boxes in tube form list the common diameters.
- Two candles side by side: about 200 x 110 x 100 mm
- Gift set of three small bottles: about 240 x 160 x 70 mm
- Round box for a hand-tied posy: about 200 mm across and 180 mm high
- A5 wedding invitation with RSVP card: about 220 x 160 x 30 mm
- Award plaque or framed certificate: about 320 x 240 x 50 mm
Inserts that make a set feel complete
An insert turns a box of items into a gift set. We cut it in card, foam or a satin-lined finish around the pieces you send, whichever you prefer.
Card suits boxed or flat items. Foam suits glass and anything fragile. Satin lining suits keepsakes and small gifts where softness is part of the look.
Think about the order in which pieces are lifted out. The item you want noticed first should sit front and centre, with smaller extras around it.
High-value gifts need the most precise inserts, because a piece that shifts by a few millimetres looks careless. Our luxury boxes with fitted inserts show how a cut-out frames each piece.
Weddings, birthdays and other occasions
Occasion boxes are often ordered in smaller runs with personal print. Wedding invitations, bridesmaid gifts and favour boxes all belong in this range.
Birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day and Eid gifts are common briefs too. The box can carry a date, initials or a short line inside the lid.
Couples often order two sizes in one wrap: a slim box for invitations and a deeper one for bridal party gifts. Matching them costs nothing extra in design time, because the artwork is shared.
Invitations sent in a rigid box are kept long after the day. Our wedding and invitation boxes are sized to A5 and A6 cards.
Which wrap and foil suit a luxury gift box?
Gift boxes carry finishes better than any other range, because the outside is the gift wrap. Soft touch wrap with a gold foil logo is the classic pairing, and for good reason: it feels warm and the foil stands out cleanly.
Textured and linen-look papers add depth without print. A raised or pressed logo works well on a plain wrap, where it can be felt as well as seen.
Matt or gloss lamination and spot UV are further options if you want contrast on a printed wrap. Ribbon pulls and ties can be added to most styles in the range.
Flower boxes and tall gifts
Flowers need height and a round shape more than anything. A tube box gives both, with the arrangement sitting in the base and the lid sliding over the top.
Measure the arrangement at its widest and tallest point. Then allow room for the lid to slide on without touching petals or leaves.
Preserved stems are lighter and drier than fresh flowers, and they suit a box kept on a shelf. Many florists use a smaller round box for those and a taller one for a full bouquet.
Tall gifts other than flowers, such as a bottle or a rolled print, can use the same build. Our round flower boxes with a fitted lid are made to those measurements.
Planning a gift box order around a date
Gift boxes are nearly always linked to a date, so plan back from the day they are handed over.
Leave a few days spare at the end for filling the boxes. Packing a gift set neatly takes longer than most teams expect.
Gifts for Mother's Day, Valentine's Day and Eid all have fixed dates, and many brands order for them at the same time. Asking for a price a few weeks early leaves room to adjust the design.
- Choose the box from the table and gather the items that go inside.
- Measure the laid-out gift, including the space the insert needs.
- Pick a wrap, a logo finish and any ribbon.
- Ask for a written quote, giving the sizes, quantity and the date the boxes must reach you.
- Sign off the free proof. From there, allow 4–6 business days for making, plus 2–3 for free tracked UK delivery.
Posting a gift or handing it over
A gift handed over in person can travel in a bag, but one sent by post needs an outer carton. Rigid board protects the gift, while the outer protects the rigid board.
Leave 10 to 20 mm of fill around the gift box inside the carton. A box that slides about in its outer carton will reach the person with crushed corners.
For a hand delivery, a matching paper carrier bag finishes the look. Keep the logo on the box rather than the bag, so the gift still carries your name once the bag is thrown away.
Common gift box mistakes
Most of these only show up when the first boxes are filled.
Each of these is cheap to fix at proof stage and costly after production. Send the real items or exact sizes before you approve.
- Sizing to the items alone, then finding the insert will not fit.
- Choosing a deep box for a shallow gift, so it looks half empty.
- Placing foil where a ribbon will later cover it.
- Forgetting an outer carton for gifts sent by post.
- Ordering too few for an event guest list that grows in the final week.
Gift and Presentation Boxes: questions
Which boxes in the gift and presentation range keep the lid attached?
The two magnetic styles, rigid gift boxes and luxury boxes. Their lids stay joined at the back, so the box can be reopened many times.
Can gift boxes carry a name or date for an occasion?
Yes. Initials, a date or a short line can go on the lid or inside it, in print or foil.
Which gift box suits a candle?
A round gift box for one round candle, or a magnetic box with a card insert for two or three.
Can a flower box lid sit over a tall arrangement?
Yes, if the box is sized to the arrangement height plus clearance. Send the height and width at the widest point.
Which box suits a wedding invitation?
The wedding and invitation box, a lift-off lid design sized to A5 or A6 cards.
Can a presentation box hold an award plaque?
Yes. A lift-off presentation box with a foam or card insert holds a plaque or framed certificate flat.
Can ribbon be added to a luxury gift box?
Yes. Ribbon pulls and ties are available on most styles as an option.
Can each gift box in an order carry a different inside message?
Mention it with your quote request. We say in writing what is possible at your quantity.
Which finish pairing suits a luxury gift box?
Soft touch lamination with gold foil reads as luxury at a glance. Embossing on a plain textured wrap is a quieter choice.
Do gift boxes arrive ready to fill?
Most arrive made up and ready to fill. Collapsible versions, which fold flat, are on our collapsible rigid boxes page.
Can I order gift boxes for Eid or Valentine's Day?
Yes. Occasion boxes are made to order like the rest of the range, so plan back from the date.
Are round gift boxes priced differently from square ones?
Each order is priced in writing for its construction, size, wrap, finish and quantity, so the figure reflects the box you choose.
