What are lingerie boxes?

Lingerie boxes are sliding drawer boxes: a rigid tray inside a rigid sleeve. The tray comes out by a ribbon tab or a half-moon notch, and the set sits in tissue inside it. They are sized to the folded set, with depth for moulded cups.

A tray slides out of a wrapped sleeve, pulled by a ribbon or tab. A slow reveal as the tray slides into view.

How lingerie boxes are put together

A tray slides out of a wrapped sleeve, pulled by a ribbon or tab. Each one is built from five parts:

  1. Outer sleeve
  2. Printed wrap
  3. Greyboard sleeve and tray
  4. Insert in the tray
  5. Ribbon or tab pull

Why do lingerie brands use drawer boxes?

Lingerie is a private, personal buy, and the opening should feel that way. A drawer box hides the set inside a sleeve until someone pulls the tray out slowly.

It also protects. Lace snags and moulded cups dent, and a rigid sleeve keeps both safe in a bag or a parcel.

Drawer boxes also keep their use after the set is worn. Many buyers keep them in a wardrobe or dressing table for small pieces, so your name stays in sight.

The construction is our standard sliding drawer box, sized for folded underwear rather than jewellery.

Who orders custom lingerie boxes?

They sit with the rest of our fashion and apparel rigid boxes, and suit any soft garment that folds small.

  • Independent lingerie labels selling online
  • Boutiques boxing sets bought as Valentine's Day or anniversary gifts
  • Bridal shops offering a boxed wedding night set
  • Sleepwear brands selling silk pyjamas and slips
  • Subscription services sending a monthly set

How does the drawer slide open?

The sleeve is open at one or both ends. The tray fits inside by friction, tight enough not to fall out and loose enough to slide.

Our first photo shows a black sleeve with a nude pink tray and a black ribbon tab. You pull the tab and the tray glides out, with black tissue folded over the set inside.

The second photo uses a half-moon thumb notch cut into the tray front instead of a ribbon. Three black boxes show a white set and a dark set half pulled out. The notch is cleaner; the ribbon is more of a gift detail.

The fit between tray and sleeve matters more than any print. A drawer that is a millimetre too tight sticks; one too loose rattles. Getting the gap right is most of the craft in a drawer box.

What size lingerie box do I need?

Fold the set as you will pack it, in tissue. Measure the length, the width and the height at the highest point, which is usually the bra cups.

Moulded and padded cups should nest one inside the other, never be folded. That sets the box height, often 70 to 80 mm for a set.

Allow roughly 5 mm on every side for the tissue wrapped around the set. Our steps for measuring a product for a rigid box work the same for soft goods.

Moulded or padded cup setNested cupsAbout 70 to 80 mm

Which board and wrap suit lingerie boxes?

Sleeve and tray are both greyboard; ask if you want a heavier sheet. The sleeve walls do most of the work, so a firm board there keeps the drawer running smoothly.

Two-colour builds are the signature of a drawer box. A black sleeve over a blush tray, as in our photo, gives a flash of colour as the tray slides out.

Smooth papers suit printed sleeves. Soft, textured papers suit plain black or ivory sleeves, and they feel close to fabric in the hand.

How should a lingerie box be printed?

Most lingerie brands keep the sleeve simple: a logo, a script line or one small motif. Our first sample has white handwriting and two small red marks on black.

Finishes come as options. A soft touch laminate on black feels like suede and resists marks. Foil works well for a script logo, and spot UV can pick out a pattern on a matt sleeve.

Think about the end of the sleeve too. It is the face people see when the box sits in a stack, so a small logo there helps in a shop.

A printed line inside the tray, hidden until the set is lifted, is a nice extra. Test a logo on a sleeve in Design Your Box for lingerie sleeves.

Do lingerie boxes need an insert?

Usually tissue is enough. The set is folded in two or three sheets, and the tissue fills the tray around it.

For moulded bras sold alone, a card cradle under the cups keeps their shape in transit. For hosiery, a flat card sheet keeps the pack neat.

A small card pocket in the tray can hold a care card or a thank-you note.

Avoid foam for lace. It can catch fine edges, and tissue does the job with nothing to snag on.

Can lingerie boxes be used for PR and launches?

Yes. Drawer boxes are a favourite for sending a new collection to stylists and creators. The slide-out reveal films well.

Plan the box around the piece you most want seen. A single hero bodysuit in a deep tray, with the rest of the drop shown on a printed card, often lands better than a crowded box.

For larger send-outs with several pieces, our book-style PR boxes give more room and a message inside the cover.

How do you post lingerie boxes discreetly?

Drawer boxes reach you made up, tray inside the sleeve. To post one, use a plain outer carton or mailer so the branded box stays private.

A band of paper or a sticker across the sleeve end stops the tray sliding out in the post. Pack the box flat so the cups stay on top.

Returns are common in lingerie, so think about the box coming back. A rigid drawer box survives a return trip, and many customers reuse it to send items back neatly.

What mistakes should you avoid with lingerie boxes?

Most problems are about height and how the drawer runs. We check both on the proof, but they are easier to fix before the brief.

  • Folding moulded cups to fit a shallow box
  • Making the tray too tight in the sleeve, so it sticks
  • Choosing a ribbon pull that clashes with the tray colour
  • Printing heavy detail on a sleeve that gets handled often
  • Posting the branded box with no plain outer, when buyers want privacy

Lingerie Boxes: questions

Will moulded bra cups fit in a lingerie box?

Yes. We set the box height for nested cups, usually 70 to 80 mm, so they are never folded.

Can a lingerie box have a blush tray inside a black sleeve?

Yes. A contrast tray, like blush inside black, is one of the most popular choices.

Ribbon pull or thumb notch: which is better?

A ribbon tab feels more like a gift. A thumb notch is cleaner and has nothing to catch.

Could the tray fall out of a lingerie box in transit?

No. The tray fits by friction. A paper band or sticker across the end adds hold for posting.

Can a lingerie box fit a silk robe?

Yes, with a larger and deeper box. Send the folded size and we size the drawer to it.

Can the inside of the tray be printed?

Yes. A message or pattern can be printed on the tray base, seen once the set is lifted out.

Are lingerie boxes good for Valentine's Day gifts?

Yes. Many boutiques order a red or black version for Valentine's Day sets.

Can I fit two sets in one box?

Yes. We make the tray deeper or wider, and a card divider keeps the sets apart.

Is there space for a care card?

Yes. A card pocket in the tray or a slot under the tissue can be added.

Can the sleeve be open at both ends?

Yes. An open-ended sleeve lets the tray be pushed out from either side.

Do you make matching boxes for hosiery?

Yes. We can cut a slimmer drawer for stockings in matching wrap and price it alongside.

Where can I find answers about orders and payment?

Our questions page on ordering rigid boxes covers quotes, proofs and payment in one place.
